Know Your Rights with a Pending Naturalization Application
Please be aware we do not represent individuals before any immigration agency, even those individuals who attended our citizenship clinics. So, if you need a legal representative, please use this link to find authorized law practitioners to support you with your case.
You Do Not Have to Answer Questions Without your Legal Representative.
You can say, “I want to call my attorney before I answer any questions” or “I’ll schedule another time to talk to you with my attorney.”
You Do Not Have to Let USCIS Into Your Home.
You can say, “I don’t consent to a search of my home.” If you choose to speak to USCIS, you can talk outside.
Ask for Interpretation if You Are Requesting a Language Exemption or Medical Waiver.
You can say, “I would like an interpreter.”
Ask the Officers to Identify Themselves.
You can say, “What is your name, title, and field office?” Write down the information.
If You Choose to Speak to USCIS Without Your Attorney, Do Not Make Any False Claims.
Limit your answers to only what is asked. If you are unsure of a response, you can say, “I would like to stop the interview and consult with my legal representative.”
Do Not Sign Anything Without Your Legal Representative.
You can say, “I would like to review this with an attorney before signing.”
You Are Not Required to Share Information About Other Individuals.
You can say, “I don’t feel comfortable sharing that information.”
Write Down What Happened
Record the date, time, name and title, and what questions they asked. Share the information with your legal representative.
